Patrick’s One-man Show
Sun, Feb. 10, 2008
Patrick’s show was so cute. He opened with There's No Business Like Show Business-- then Shirley cuts in with a song. He looks around- tries again-- David cuts in with I Think I Love You. One more time-- Shaun- with Hey Deanie! He looks to his pianist & mouths "this is My Show" Then Jack cuts in!
First song was My Fortune is my Face from Jack’s show, “Fade Out Fade In” (he looks just like Jack-- right profile, left profile.) he makes jokes about one of his teeth is almost paid for, then worries about Jack & Cole's teeth.
Shows Jack's Sardi's caricature--saying that Shirley, David & Shaun are up there, & they even have room for him-- he said Jack's autograph was I'm the best looking star here-- Pat's is "I'm even better looking!" Sings Danny Boy-Gets a Standing O!
Show's Shirley's photo (head-shot in the black sparkly dress) sings ‘Til There Was You- cuts in with his mother's story about kicking Robert P-- ends up singing ‘Til There Was ME!! One of Pat's best lines last night: when he was talking about how they were cinching in her corsets to keep the pregnancy hidden, he said "which explains the strange configuration of this head!" Then he sang a beautiful song for her I think was called Mamma.
He talks about Melissa- sings a sexy rumba rhythm song about her to a head-shot of her.
Sings The Song That Goes Like This (from Spamalot) with his accompanist (another This is MY SHOW moment) & shoots him with a hand gun out of frustration. The accompanist revives when Patrick says “the show’s Over!”
Portrait of 4 brothers- he introduces them in order of size & R-L- shortest to tallest David, Shaun, Ryan & him (but he says that they say HE looks the oldest with his grey hair.) When he sings a “duet,“ You're Nothing Without Me (from City Of Angels), he takes a head-mask of David on a stick and either sings David's lines with the mask over his face or held down waist high (to make fun of David’s lack of height!)
Shows school pics of Jack & Cole- Jack looks exactly like Pat at that age! Tells how they went on tour with him in Joseph & sings a sweet lullaby for them.
Other highlights-I Am What I Am (from La Cage Aux Folles) saying yes, he is a straight Broadway actor! He does football & basketball motions during the song, ending with a white boa tossed around his neck. He also sang Being Alive from Company.
Ended the show with There's No Business Like Show Business.
He has such a great sense of humor on stage.
After the show, he came out and chatted with audience members. He had signed 4 DVDS of Longtime Companion to auction for Jack’s Walk of Fame Star, and posed for a photo with me (actually a few- Dad got great shots of Patrick, but I was just cut off!)
My family had second row seats, and had a great view. I’d like to thank Roz Feldman for her help & support.
